| GeoPortal Utility Architecture |
| The GeoPortal Utility architecture / design is straightforward: Your data stays with you. You use the Utility background mapping and services to manage and publish your data and build understanding in your organization and among your partners and clients. Your business information is accessed through two core web-based end-user tools – GeoViewer and DataViewer. GeoViewer provides intelligent map-related functions to give you access to the information you are authorized to see. DataViewer provides query-like functions to produce business reports that can then integrate with GeoViewer and other systems. With DataViewer, you ask a question of your data, and map the result. GeoViewer and DataViewer provide access to the same information but in two different ways. |

The GeoPortal Utility manages and maintains all the mapping data you use. The bulk of this map data is provided by DMTI Spatial – the premier map data supplier in Canada. When you subscribe to the GeoPortal Utility, you interact with SKE’s Web Map Services. These services take the requests you send from GeoViewer and Dynamic Reporter over the Internet and return a dynamic map that combines your business asset locations with streets, aerial imagery and more. GeoViewer then displays the map and provides links into your business tabular databases, documents, multimedia, and web content all within your computing environment. That means: The architecture diagram shows two distinct environments, however you experience one seamless environment with maps and business data together. SKE will work with your IT department to make the initial connections between your systems and the GeoPortal and set up any user security required. |
